Those who persevere in the path of power are persons of three kinds:

1. the one whose way is uphill
2. and the other whose way is downhill -- both arriving at the same end, the first perhaps with greater, the other with less difficulty.
3. The third has the most difficult way, for it is neither upwards nor downwards; it may be called the way of the cross.
